Nundah Post-War Renovation

This Nundah post-war homepresented a rare opportunity for our Brisbane-based residential architecturepractice. Free from character overlay constraints, we explored the intersection of contemporary living and traditional residential form—creating a bespoke design that respects heritage while embracing innovation.

Our clients' brief was clear: preserve the existing upper level while raising the structure to create a generous ground floor that would become the home's new public realm and provide secure garage parking

—a significant upgrade from their previous street parking arrangement. Through close collaboration with Cobb and Co Projects from the earliest design stages, we transformed a modest 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom dwelling into a sophisticated 4-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom family home that exemplifies quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The previously austere facade now features carefully considered detailing that respects the post-war vernacular while introducing contemporary refinement. Working with our award-winning builders early in the process proved invaluable—resolving complex construction detailing and managing budget expectations before breaking ground.

The new climate-responsive ground level houses an open-plan kitchen and living area enriched with modern amenities including a butler's pantry and dedicated laundry/mudroom. This high-end residential renovation demonstrates that luxury home design doesn't require strict preservation. Instead, it's about understanding the bones of what exists and thoughtfully introducing new elements that create timeless, functional spaces.
